Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the training course, the participant is expected to:

Gain a basic knowledge of the legal concepts and the main regulatory issues related to migration,
Acquire basic skills to interact with people of different minorities
Acquire knowledge of problem solving techniques
Acquire a proficient level in conflict management,
Acquire a proficient level in intercultural trainer competences.

Learning material

The learning material consists of presentations and support material. The learning material will be available on-line in English language.

Cost

Tuition fees:

for the 5 days course it is 350 euro per person
for the 7 days course it is 490 euro per person

The cost includes the learning material and the certificates: Certificate of completion, Europass Certificate Supplement, Europass Mobility.

Cultural programme (Not applicable for the courses organised in Korinthia):

for the 5 days course it is 150 euro per person
for the 7 days course it is 170 euro per person

The cost includes lunch during the course, cultural activities (walking tour of Piraeus and guided tour of Athens) and three common dinners. The cost of local transportation and the entrance fees to sites and museums are not included.

The cost can be funded by Erasmus+ programme KA1 mobility of staff.

5 days course - Indicative training programme

Day 1: Introduction to the training course, syllabus, methodology, learning outcomes; Cultures and stereotypes:; Illustration of the concept of culture, key categories (ethnic group, race, racism, multiculturalism, gender, nationality, religion); Prejudices and stereotypes; Obstacles to integration; Xenophobia and racism; Activity: The own social and cultural identity; History of migration :; History and reasons for migration; Source of information on history of world globalisation; History of migration; Geopolitics; History of assimilation trends; Current situation in Europe and the world; Information on the political and social situation in Europe; Current national and European immigration; Quantitative and qualitative data on the presence of foreigners; Assimilation policies -new integration policies; Glossary of words and expressions related to immigration and integration

Day 2: Legislation:; Basic legal concepts: citizenship, nationality, residence permit, family reunion; Principles fixed in the project of the new European Constitution; European law on migration; Human rights and rules against discrimination - Convention of Geneva (1951); Activity: National laws on migration (entry, asylum, permanence, integration, work, health services, children and family law); Human rights:; European Declaration of human rights; European Convention of human rights; European Declaration against illegal traffic of immigrants; Directive 2000/78; Directive 2000/43; Intercultural Learning - Intercultural Trainer Competence:; Basic knowledge over the theme cultural imprint, also gender specific; Training of the perception ability for diversities in the group of students or participants; Behavioural repertoire (the possible range of behaviours)

Day 3: Communication:; Basic techniques of communication and management of interviews; Structure of a face to face interview; Management; Reference framework; Message; Intention; Ability to listen; Empathy; Feed - back; Intercultural communication; Peculiarities of intercultural communication; Non-verbal communication styles; Gender typical communication; Group dynamics, norms, roles, cultural filter; Coding, decoding; Analysis of the situation, clarification, capacity to stand back; Stereotypes, commonplaces and prejudices; Activity: Intercultural communication case studies

Day 4: Problem solving; Analysis of solving strategies; Multi-faced problems and multi-faced solutions; Strategies to involve immigrants users; Strategies to identify the problems; Activity: problem solving in real world situations; Intercultural conflict management; Types of conflict in the ethnic or social dimension; Methods and instruments for constructive conflict management; Positive conflict and difference management; Conflict definition and classification; Types of conflicts; Levels and contexts of social conflicts; Premises or causes of conflicts

Day 5: Activity: simulation of intercultural conflict management; Reflexion - evaluation of the training course; Certificates – Europass Mobility
